faq - mountain zipline tours

Q: Am I required to book a tour ahead of time, or can I join a tour the day of?
A: It is not required to book in advance however we do highly recommend it. During our peak summer season, our Mountain Zipline tours are a very popular activity and as such, tour times or availability may be limited if not purchased in advance.

Q: Will the tour be cancelled if it’s raining?
A: Our tours run rain or shine, so make sure you dress appropriately for the weather! Only inclement weather such as high winds or thunder and lightning will require us to cancel a tour and if so, we will notify you as soon as possible.

Q: Is it safe?
A: Your safety is our top priority. Our Ziplines undergo regular maintenance and are inspected daily by trained staff members and seasonally by Technical Safety BC. Tour guides undergo a rigorous training program and work with experienced guides prior to guiding tours.

Q: What should I wear and bring with me? Is there anywhere secure I can leave my belongings?
A: Please come prepared with weather appropriate clothing and well fitted closed toe shoes that are suitable for walking. If you intend to have any items with you such as cell phones or car keys, please ensure that you have them in a zipped-up pocket. If you do not have any place to put your belongings, lockers will be available for rent. Bags, purses or backpacks will not be allowed on the tour. We also strongly recommend sunglasses and sunscreen! *Any items dropped from the zipline may not be able to be retrieved, and Grouse Mountain is not responsible for any items lost or damaged during the tour.

Q: I’m scared - how will I know if I can do it? What if I am afraid of heights?
A: If you feel a little uneasy with heights, we understand - some may feel a little bit afraid at the beginning and we’ve been there too. Our attentive and friendly guides will ensure that you feel comfortable and safe throughout the tour so that you have an exciting and rewarding experience! The tour begins with a safety briefing and introduction that will explain what to expect and cover everything that you need to know, and the first three ziplines will ease you into the heights and speeds of the experience prior to the final two lines of the tour.

Q: If I do not feel comfortable, will I need to zipline down to finish the tour or to return to the base?
A: The first three lines are at our plateau level and have opportunities to opt out at any point should you be unable to continue. Due to the length and location of our final two lines, all guests that complete our fourth zipline are required to complete the final line.

Q: How strict are your safety requirements?
A: As safety is our top priority, our requirements must be met at all times during your experience. Grouse Mountain Staff reserve the right to deny access at their professional discretion.

Q: How old does my child have to be to go on your Ziplines?
A: We do not have an age requirement to go on our Ziplines. However, all participants must meet our weight requirement of 32kg (70lbs) to 114kg (250lbs), including clothing and footwear.

Q: How much walking or hiking is required? Do I need to have a high level of physical fitness?
A: The tour does include some short walks between the various lines and the Peak Chairlift, mostly on gravel paths with a short uphill rocky path to the final zipline. Guests are required to carry their zipline trolley during the tour, however guides may assist as required.

Q: If I only want to watch my family zipline and I do not want to do it myself, will I be able to see them?
A: There are a few points around the plateau where the ziplines are visible from and which are accessible to public! However, you will not be able to watch them complete the entire tour.

Q: Where does the tour begin, and where do I go when I arrive? Will I end up at the base of the mountain after the tour?
A: All of Grouse Mountain’s activities and attractions begin at the plateau level of the mountain which is located at approximately 1,100m above sea level. Board the Skyride, departing every 15 minutes or less at the base of the mountain. Upon exiting the Skyride, head left and check in for your tour at the red flags in the Mountaintop Plaza. Upon completion of your tour, you will arrive back at the same location you started at, just outside the Peak Chalet.

Q: My child does not meet the requirement to Zipline on their own - can they Zipline with me?
A: We do not offer tandem ziplining, however with our dual line course you can be flying along right next to your friend or family member!

Q: Is Mountain Admission and access to the Skyride included in the Zipline cost?
A: Mountain Ziplines is purchased as an add-on to your Mountain Admission ticket.

Q: Are there discounts for locals?
A: BC Residents receive a discount on our Mountain Admission ticket, however there is no discount on the cost of the Mountain Ziplines tour.
