Vancouver’s favourite holiday tradition
November 29, 2008
November 29, 2008, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver, B.C. – Usher in the spirit of holiday season at the Peak of Christmas festivities opening this weekend at Grouse Mountain.
Guests can visit Santa's Workshop and meet real reindeer, or experience the tranquil beauty of skating on our 8,000 square foot mountaintop ice skating pond. Visitors can also learn more about Santa's reindeer at our daily ranger interpretive talks or take a photo with Santa to keep as a memento.
Now in its fifteenth year, the SOS Parade of Trees at Grouse Mountain is a winter tradition that supports charitable giving, while ensuring a wonderful time for all involved with decorative trees on display in the Spirit Gallery of the Peak Chalet. SOS Children's Villages BC is the provincial branch of an international child charity, providing long-term care for orphans and children in need. Guests can visit the Theatre in the Sky to enjoy classic Christmas movies on our large high-definition screen on the main floor of the Peak Chalet, or listen to joyful Christmas carols sung by the enchanting voices of Vancouver choirs. Children are also welcome to have breakfast with Santa, and share a memorable meal with the jolly man in red complete with a buffet brunch and children's entertainment in Lupins Café.
Grouse Mountain continues to support the Karen Magnussen Foundation’s skate development program by hosting a series of skate lessons taught by former World and Olympic Skate Champion Karen Magnussen, as well as an Ice Show held in December featuring Karen, other International and National champion skaters, and members of the North Shore Winter Club.
“We are very pleased to partner with the Karen Magnussen foundation on this fantastic event for the second consecutive year,” says General Manager, Michael Cameron. “With the world spotlight on Vancouver a year away, we support the foundation’s mission to grow more world class skaters from a younger age.”
The foundation aims to put more of BC’s youth on the world stage in the years to come. Skate lessons are available for all levels and are free of charge. Partial proceeds from skate rentals will be donated to the Karen Magnussen Foundation.
Magical sleigh rides through our alpine forest will commence as snowfall continues in the coming weeks. These exciting Peak of Christmas activities are all complimentary with Grouse Mountain admission and continue until Christmas Eve.
