The Peak of Christmas festival returns
November 28, 2009
November 27, 2009, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver, B.C. – Santa has officially returned to Grouse Mountain along with his elves and magical reindeer Dancer and Vixen for the month-long Peak of Christmas festivities opening this weekend at the resort. Sleigh rides, free skating lessons, ice shows and the very best Christmas classics are also part of this exciting festival beginning on Saturday, November 28th.
As part of Vancouver’s favourite holiday tradition, guests can visit Santa's Workshop and meet real reindeer, or experience the tranquil beauty of skating on our 8,000 square foot mountaintop ice skating pond. Visitors can also learn more about Santa's reindeer at our daily ranger interpretive talks or take a photo with Santa to keep as a memento. Children are also welcome to have breakfast with Santa, and share a memorable meal with the jolly man in red complete with a buffet brunch and children's entertainment in Lupins Café.
Now in its sixteenth year, the SOS Parade of Trees at Grouse Mountain is a winter tradition that supports charitable giving, while ensuring a wonderful time for all involved with decorative trees on display in the Spirit Gallery of the Peak Chalet. SOS Children's Villages BC is the provincial branch of an international child charity, providing long-term care for orphans and children in need.
Grouse Mountain continues to support the Karen Magnussen Foundation’s skate development program by hosting a series of skate lessons taught by former World and Olympic Skate Champion Karen Magnussen, as well as an Ice Show held in December featuring Karen, other International and National champion skaters, and members of the North Shore Winter Club. Partial proceeds from skate rentals will be donated to the Karen Magnussen Foundation. The foundation aims to put more of BC’s youth on the world stage in the years to come. Skate lessons are available for all levels and are free of charge.
“The Karen Magnussen foundation have partnered with us for this fantastic event for the third consecutive year,” says General Manager, Michael Cameron. “This will be a momentous season, and we are proud to support the foundation’s mission to grow more world class skaters from a younger age.”
Guests can also visit the Theatre in the Sky to enjoy classic Christmas movies on our large high-definition screen on the main floor of the Peak Chalet, or listen to joyful music performed by eclectic singers and choirs.
The 83rd winter season is underway at Grouse Mountain, and these exciting Peak of Christmas activities are all complimentary with Grouse Mountain admission and continue until Christmas Eve. Ahead this season, visitors can look forward to unprecedented access when the entire resort remains open 24 hours for all 17 days of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
