World Class Snowboarders Face-Off On the Slopes of Grouse Mountain
Epic Jumps and Big Air Will Determine The Winner At Quiksilver's Showdown Over The City

March 15, 2012. Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver B.C. - The ultimate snowboarding event, Quiksilver’s Showdown Over the City is back at Grouse Mountain for its fifth year on March 23 and 24. This high profile competition is one of the premier snowboarding events in Canada where pro riders and amateurs from across the continent go head to head for chance at a $20,000 prize purse.
This year’s Quiksilver Showdown Over The City has a 4-Star ranking as part of the TTR World Snowboard Tour which is the premiere event circuit in the world. Amateurs will compete on Friday March 23 to earn a spot in the pro category Saturday March 24. The weekend at Grouse Mountain consists of Friday amateur qualifiers, Friday Night Rail Jam culminating in the final pro Showdown on Saturday March 24 from noon to 3:45pm. Alongside the competition there will be other festivities including a beer garden, BBQ and Altitudes Bistro after-party with the pro riders.
Grouse Mountain is constructing unique and custom features ensuring riders get the biggest air possible. All of the action of Quiksilver's Showdown Over The City take place against Grouse Mountain's signature urban backdrop making for stunning spectatorship, video and photography.
“We have a world-class list of riders taking part in Showdown which is the only event of its kind in British Columbia bringing the highest caliber of snowboarders direct to our own backyard”, says Michael Cameron, Grouse Mountain’s General Manager. “The level of professional riding showcased makes for a great Spring weekend here at the Peak of Vancouver for spectators and snowboarding enthusiasts”.
New this year as part of Showdown Over the City, Grouse Mountain, in partnership with Snowboard Canada and Push.ca, are launching a Filmmaker Showdown and a Photo Showdown. Up and coming local photographers have the opportunity to submit photos for a chance to see their work published on SnowboardCanada.Com and win great Quiksilver prizing. Filmmakers will have the chance at at $5000 winner-take-all grand prize and their video will be featured as editorial on Push.ca.
