Grouse Mountain partners with World Pulse
June 2, 2010
June 2, 2010, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver, B.C, – Grouse Mountain has joined forces with World Pulse to recycle used laptops and put these powerful tools of empowerment into the hands of women change makers. Effective immediately anyone can drop off their old laptop at the resort’s Guest Services office.
Grouse Mountain will not only provide a collection point for donated laptops, but it will refurbish the computers and dispatch them to emerging women journalists from around the world. Donated computers will find new life in the hands of World Pulse’ Voices of Our Future program participants like Sunita. World Pulse is a media organization dedicated to broadcasting global issues through the eyes of women. The Voices of Our Future program provides media leadership training to a cohort of women leaders selected from a World Pulse’ online community, PulseWire—a network of thousands of members representing over 130 different countries.
The contributions of Grouse Mountain, along with laptop donations from the public, will create powerful new opportunities for the Voices of Our Future participants. The joint initiative will amplify the impact of the existing program by combining technology access with the established media training curriculum and mentorship opportunities.
In many countries around the world, there are significant barriers to accessing technology. These barriers can be even more acute for women, who typically shoulder extra responsibilities and cultural restrictions. Women frequently overcome incredible odds in order to participate in the Voices of Our Future program.
This unique partnership between Grouse Mountain and World Pulse is a wonderful example of for-profit and non-profit organizations working together to identify opportunities for their combined efforts to make a difference in the world.
