BIke Park Safety

The information contained in the Bike Safety and Risk Awareness section of this website is intended to inform you of the risks, dangers, and hazards associated with mountain biking and to help you stay safe while enjoying this activity. Whether you are a mountain biker or a parent/guardian of a minor participant, please take the time to familiarize yourself with Grouse Mountain's Bike Park Safety and Risk Awareness information.

Exclusion of Liability- assumption of Risk

The use of mountain biking trails, area premises, and facilities, as well as participation in mountain biking activities, involves various risks, dangers, and hazards. It is a condition of your use of the premises and facilities and your participation in mountain biking that you assume all risks of personal injury, death, or property loss resulting from any cause whatsoever. This includes, but is not limited to, negligence, breach of contract, or breach of any duty of care on the part of the mountain biking area operator. Your legal responsibilities as a user of the premises and facilities or as a participant in mountain biking activities are outlined in the following notice, which is posted at the mountain biking area.

WaiveRS

All riders in the Bike park are required to sign a waiver. The waiver can be reviewed and printed here.

MOuntain Bike responsibility Code

All riders riding in the Grouse Bike Park are expected to follow the rules outlined in the Mountain Bike Responsibility Code

General RULES Of the Park

  • Purchase of a bike park pass is required to enter the Bike Park
  • Helmets are Mandatory. Full face helmets and padding are strongly recommended 
  • Riders must be 6 years of age or older and ride a bike with front and rear brakes. Strider Bikes and Introductory Pedal Bikes (Single Brake or Pedal Braking) are not permitted 
  • Riders must remain on marked bike trails. Riding off trails, braiding, and any building of no-sanctioned trails will result in passes/tickets being revoked. 
  • Respect Bike park signage. Entering closed trails will result in pass/tickets being revoked
  • Bikers must yield to vehicle traffic 
  • Report all injuries to Patrol (604 998 4321)

PROGRESSION

Progression and understanding your ability are key factors to reducing your risk of injury. Please review the progression chart above before planning your ride. If you have any questions ask a staff member for assistance

Progression on your first visit
  • It is strongly recommended inexperienced riders new to mountain biking should start with a lesson. Riders who have never ridden a bike park should start their day in the Lemon Squeezy learning zone.
  • Beginner and Intermediate riders should start their day in the Lemon Squeezy Learning Zone and Progress to Tim’s Trim 
  • Intermediate riders who have bike park experience should begin their day on Tim’s Trim before progressing to Oh Dear.
  • Advanced and Intermediate rider should start their day on Oh Deer before progressing to Sooty’s and Silly Beat
  • Sooty’s, Silly Beat and BOC Rock are Machine Built Jump Trails. Jumping Skills are required to ride these trails.

MOUNTAIN BIKE CHECKLIST


Mountain Bike Parks/Trails are rough and demanding on both the bike and body.  Before riding, always inspect your equipment or have it checked by a qualified bike mechanic 

  • Ensure your helmet is undamaged, fits securely and is appropriate for the riding you are participating in 
  • Ensure bike is correct for intended use and correctly fitted to the rider 
  • Inspect bike frame. Look for cracks, damage and dents 
  • Ensure front and rear brakes are in working order and provide adequate stopping power while descending. 
  • Ensure suspension is in working order and set for your weight and riding ability. 
  • Bolts and connection points must be tight and secure 
  • Tires must have adequate tread and be inflated to an appropriate pressure. 
  • Handlebars and grips must be properly secured 
  • Seat and seat post must be fastened securely and at the appropriate height for the type of riding ***If you are unsure how to perform any of the inspections above, see a qualified bike mechanic****

BIKE PARK SIGNAGE

Trail Classification

Green
Trails with various obstacles such as gravel, roots, rocks, potholes, berms and bridges. MUST BE COMFORTABLE RIDING A BICYCLE 

Blue 
Challenging riding with steep slopes and/or obstacles, possibly on narrow trails with man made objects and features. These include but are not limited to: jumps, ramps, elevated features, gaps, drops, rocks and other terrain variations. MUST BE A COMPETENT MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDER 

Black 
Difficult riding with a mixture of long steep docents, loose trail surfaces, numerous natural and man-made obstacles and features. These include but are not limited to: jumps, ramps, elevated features, gaps, drops, rocks and other terrain variation. MUST HAVE ADVANCED MOUNTAIN BIKE HANDLING SKILLS

Double Black Highly Difficult Riding 
Some elements that will be encountered include large man-made and natural jumps and obstacles, wood ramps, elevated narrow trails, drops, rock faces and other difficult terrain variations. EXPERT MOUNTAIN BIKERS WITH VERY ADVANCED BICYCLE HANDLING SKILLS ONLY.



Bike Park Boundary Signage

With the exception of Mountain Highway, leaving the Bike Park Boundary is prohibited. Passes will be revoked for breach.

 

MACHINE BUILD JUMPS

Machine Built Jumps are on designated jump trails. The induvial jumps are marked with flags

BIKE-free ZONE

Bikes are not permitted outside the Bike Park. For the enjoyment of other guests, we kindly ask you to lock your bike in the bike park if you plan on visiting other areas of the operation.

Bike Walking Zones

You must walk your Bike at the Base of the Mountain and Upper Gondola Area. Bikes are only permitted to ride in the Bike Park.
