Big congratulations to our very own Sam Mulligan of the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club on winning silver in the downhill at the 2018 FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships.

Sam is the first Canadian to make a podium finish at the 2018 FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championship,s currently taking place in Davos, Switzerland. Mulligan finished just +0.02 seconds from first-place, ending the day with a silver medal.

Attending the World Junior Championships is an important step in the development of our next generation of athletes as they prepare for future World Cup and Olympic competition. Medalling at the World Junior Championships is regarded as a milestone for athletes, who often end up as podium-contenders on the World Cup circuit.

This year's downhill event was a unique race with two runs, rather than a traditional one-run downhill. The 20-year-old was sitting in third-place after his first run and moved up a spot to finish in second-place. This is Mulligan’s first FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships podium after a fourth-place result in the Super-G last season.
