What’s better than beautiful sunshine, glorious warm weather and the Grouse Grind on a Sunday morning? Doing it all for a good cause, that’s what! Now in its third year, Whistler Water One Climb in partnership with Free The Children raises funds for a very special clean water project in the community of Kipsongol, Kenya.

With a bright and early start, the starting line area at the base was abuzz with excitement and catchy tunes as close to 700 One Climbers arrived early to get ‘blued’ up with facepaint and hair chalk, listen to inspiring pre-climb speeches from Change Heroes founder Taylor Conroy and Grouse Mountain president Stuart McLaughlin and get loose during a spirited rendition of the We Day Dance. After all, it’s crucial to stretch before tackling Mother Nature’s Stairmaster!

Following their ascent of the Grind, One Climbers were treated a carnival-style mountaintop celebration on the Alpine Plaza featuring barbecue and various interactive activities courtesy of Whistler Water One Climb partners. When the final numbers were tallied, it became very clear that the big day was definitely something to celebrate.

As in past years, One Climbers went to great lengths to reach out to their friends, family and community to collect contributions for the cause. Top individual fundraiser Phoebe Chen ($1,594), top school fundraiser Ross Road Elementary ($1,200) and top team fundraiser KPMG ($6,950) have helped bring the cumulative total of One Climb donations to almost $210,000 over the past three years. To put it in perspective, $25 provides a lifetime of clean water to one person, which means 8,372 people have been positively impacted by Whistler Water One Climb to date!
