Following two years of construction, Grouse Mountain’s state-of-the-art Blue Grouse Gondola will officially take flight on Thursday, December 12th, 2024!

In honour of the historic occasion, guests are invited to join the Resort at the official ribbon cutting ceremony on December 12th from 4pm. Following the formalities, guests will take their inaugural journey to the Mountaintop in one of the new cabins where they will be greeted by a DJ spinning tunes next to the Skating Pond, complimentary hot chocolate and hot cider, food and beverage specials, plus an exhilarating fireworks display.

“The installation of the new gondola is the latest development at Grouse Mountain Resort that will significantly enhance our guest experience by reducing lineups and wait times to access and egress the Mountain,” said Michael Cameron, President Grouse Mountain Resort. “It marks the start of a new chapter for Grouse as we approach our centennial in 2026.”

Officially breaking ground on September 9th, 2022, the transformational project was completed across five phases: clearing of the gondola easement area, building of the foundations for both the base and plateau stations, assembly of the towers and line work, system testing and now, opening.

A homage to the Mountain’s original inhabitants that the Resort was named after, the Blue Grouse Gondola features 15 towers, 27 eight-person cabins and an average trip time of 5.5 minutes, allowing the new lift to operate at a capacity of 1,000 people per hour.

“The addition of the gondola has allowed us to explore a whole mountain of opportunities not previously available with just the Red Super Skyride. It’s an exciting time for Grouse and we’re so happy to be sharing these new amenities with our community,” said Cameron.

Earlier this year, Grouse Mountain announced the development of the North Shore’s only lift accessed Mountain Bike Park, and a new alpine, gravity-fed Mountain Coaster, both set to open in spring and summer, 2025 respectively.

Combined, the three projects total an almost $45 million investment into the resort, greatly diversifying its already robust four-season offering.

“This what everyone has been waiting for and we can’t wait to see the first skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers, and guests take their first trip,” Cameron continued. “We hope everyone will join us in celebrating the opening of the new Blue Grouse Gondola next week.”

Once the new gondola opens, Grouse will be in a unique position in that it will offer a journey to the top of the Mountain via the Blue Grouse Gondola, or via the Super Skyride, and with the same ticket covering both options.

The iconic Red Super Skyride is one of North America’s largest aerial tramway systems, providing unparalleled views of the city of Vancouver utilising two fixed cables and two large passenger cabins to upload and download from the Mountaintop. Operating on a continuous loop, the gondola will provide a different perspective of those views.

Since the world’s first double chairlift was built at the Resort in 1949, Grouse Mountain has had a rich history of investing in modern technology. The new gondola project supports the continued investment in the world-class experience Grouse Mountain offers and ensures Vancouver’s number one natural attraction is accessible for generations to come.
