(North Vancouver) After an amazing 19-hour day on the Grouse Grind®, Grouse Mountain is thrilled to announce that the Multi-Grouse Grind® Challenge has raised more than $25,000 in support of North Shore Rescue with a record number of participants.

The overall winner was Damien Waugh from Vancouver who completed an impressive total of 18 Grouse Grinds during the event. Coming in second overall and as the top female finisher was Megan Wing from North Vancouver, who completed 16 ascents in the 19-hour period.

As the only sanctioned event to determine the record-holder for most ascents of the Grouse Grind in a one-day period, the Multi-Grouse Grind Challenge saw a record 80 athletes seek their personal best while raising valuable funds for North Shore Rescue.

At the end of a long day on Mother Nature’s Stairmaster, the 80 participants hiked a collective total of 626 Grouse Grinds® in the 19-hour period, starting their journey at 4am, and completing their last Grind after 10pm.

“We are so excited to see participants back for what is the most challenging and unique athletic event on the North Shore,” said Michael Cameron, President of Grouse Mountain Resort. “All the athletes who participated should be incredibly proud of their accomplishment as well as the valuable funds they raised for North Shore Rescue which has exceeded $25,000.”

Established in 1965, North Shore Rescue is a volunteer, community-based search and rescue team providing a life-saving service to the public, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. The team consists of approximately 50 volunteers skilled in search and rescue operations in mountain, canyon and urban settings, from all walks of life but who share a common interest in providing an important service to the community.

“North Shore Rescue is extremely grateful to Grouse Mountain for selecting NSR to be the charity benefiting from this race,” said Mike Danks, North Shore Rescue Team Leader. “We are excited to be partnered with Grouse this year and look forward to this event and other events this summer. This partnership will allow NSR to buy life saving equipment and run essential training for our members.”

The Multi-Grouse Grind Challenge is the second event in Grouse Mountain’s Summer Race Series which saw the return of Seek the Peak on June 10, and finishes with the Vancouver classic, Grouse Grind Mountain Run on August 26.
