Last week was full of preparations getting ready for our first long-weekend full of summer activities.

The Birds in Motion have now arrived and are flying in their demonstrations at 1:30pm, 3:30pm and 5:30pm. This year we have some really amazing birds - everything from hawks, falcons, owls, vultures all the way up in size to Bald Eagles!  We also have a few new ideas to add some really cool experiences to the demonstrations.  Please make sure to stop by and check them out!

On Wednesday, Grinder and Coola entered the first half of their large 5 acre summer habitat - the Upper Pond.  They had a full day of high energy activities which included snow play, new snow cave construction and their very first full baths of the year when they hopped into the pond (see Grinder shaking dry below!).  The bears love entering their full summer habitat and often make right for the pond.  This weekend our daily Ranger Talks started at 10am, 11:30am, 2pm and 4pm.  If you would like to learn more about Grinder and Coola please be sure to stop by, listen to a talk and say hi to our staff.  They love to talk about the bears!

Also, if you would like to learn more about the wildlife, plants and heritage of Grouse Mountain our guided mountain Eco-walks have also started.  These leave from the map in front of the chalet at 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 4pm.

Our hummingbird garden and monitoring station is also in full operation now.  Quite a few hummers can be seen feeding at the station and it's always a joy to sit back and watch the antics of these tiny, but feisty, birds.  Check out the gorgeous female Rufous Hummingbird we had the privilege of working with last Friday.

There is definitely a lot going on up here at Grouse Mountain.  We can't wait to see you here!
