April 12, 2012
Red Bull Divide and Conquer, a multi discipline endurance race, is about to take Vancouver and Grouse Mountain by storm. This unique race will test competitors' mettle on the mountains, rivers and shores of Vancouver's North Shore this summer. On June 16th, teams of three participants will be challenged by a course that will include mountain running, mountain biking and whitewater kayaking.
Each team will be composed of three competitors: a mountain runner, a mountain bikers and a kayaker. They will be pushed to their limits not only here at Grouse Mountain but throughout other breathtaking locations on the North Shore. The anticipated race time is between five and seven hours with a course that will wind up and down over 8,000 meters.
Starting at Cleveland Park runners will endure over 6,000 feet of climbing and near double ascent of Grouse Mountain, they will navigate the legendary technicality of the Baden Powell Trail and will push their limits until reaching the top of Grouse Mountain where they will tag their mountain biker teammate.
Taking to the five-kilometer-section of fire road at the back of Grouse Mountain mountain bikers will head to Mount Fromme, followed by the Baden Powell Trail before tagging their kayaking teammate waiting at Capilano River. Ten kilometres down the river the first kayaker to cross the finish line will crowned the champ.
Categories will include women, men and mixed. Registration is open until May 15th or until all 100 team spots are filled.
