Secondary Education Programs

The Grouse Mountain Refuge for Endangered Wildlife offers leading edge educational programs that include science, social studies, mathematics, and recreational components. Secondary students and teachers will have the unique opportunity to learn about British Columbia's eco-system, interact with Wildlife Rangers and experience First Nations culture in a mountaintop location.

Phyla of the Grouse Mountain Ecosystem
(Gr. 11)

This interactive program is ideal for Biology 11 students. Following a brief overview of phyla, students will identify and classify mountain top flora and fauna, In addition, students will be taught basic GPS skills, culminating in an outdoor orienteering activity.

The Science of Snow (Gr. 11-12)

Includes observations and measurements of selected aspects of skiing/snowboarding, skating or snowshoeing, applying mechanics, thermodynamics and other elements of the Physics 11 & 12 curriculum in outdoor winter activities. Students can choose from skiing or snowboarding. This program is available January 12 and March 8, 2012, 9:30am-2:00pm.

Tourism Sneak Peek

In a city like Vancouver, the tourism industry is growing at a fast pace, opening countless opportunities for ambassadors of our great city. This specialized education program caters to the increasingly popular tourism curricula. With the aid of our very own tourism concierge, we will lead the group through a day behind the scenes at Grouse Mountain.

Adventure Training and Team Building

With guidance from our skilled facilitators, students will experience a unique day of experiential training and development activities, cutting edge teamwork and leadership exercises in a spectacular indoor/outdoor environment. This engaging program teaches participants to respond to unique challenges while snowshoeing, alpine hiking or on many other adventures that await on Grouse Mountain.

All Grades $20 per student + $2.40 HST ($22.40 total) with a minimum of 15 participating students required.
